If all your family have been to university and you yourself work in education you might know all there is to know about a particular university’s strengths and weaknesses: most parents don’t – and therefore most of us aren’t in a position to help our children at this crucial time.
If all your family have been to university and you yourself work in education you might know all there is to know about a particular university’s strengths and weaknesses: most parents don’t – and therefore most of us aren’t in a position to help our children at this crucial time. If this is you – have a look at the wonderful Education Guardian University information. It will tell you that is 2006 the top 10 universities overall are
Oxford
Cambridge
LSE (London School of Economics)
University College London
Imperial College
SOAS
Kings College London
Warwick
Bath
Bristol

The next five bring in the top northern universities
Nottingham
Surrey
Manchester
York
Birmingham

The website also, more importantly, allows you to look at which university might be the best to apply to for a particular subject with a particular expected mark tariff. For example, for a Tariff Band 4 and wanting to read English, Oxford Brookes comes at the top, whilst a Tariff Band 4 for Engineering brings up Leicester University. Good stuff eh ? Here is the site:
