A report to the Commons Select Committee by Michele Elliot, director of Kidscape said that middle class parents who spoil their children have created a new breed of unpleasant bully. These young people – called "the brat bullies" - come from "nice" homes but have been brought up always to get what they want. Many parents refuse to believe that their "perfect child" is capable of bad behaviour when schools confront them, she said. Some children now arrive at school believing that they are "little gods" because their over-indulgent parents have never been able to say no to them. Does this sound like children you know. Oh Yes ! Her remarks follow warnings from headteachers this month that parents who can't say no to their children are guilty of "loving neglect". Reports the Independent. Because the children are so spoilt by their parents they feel they are the centre of the universe and feel that the world owes them. They expect to be treated as special by teachers and other children and turn into bullies if they don’t. Parents of these children are particularly difficult to deal with as they don’t recognise the problem. The “brat bullies” are more likely to be girls – because boys “tend to sort each other out”. The rise of this type of bullying is related to the rise in only children - so the new bullies are “Miss Sunshine” and “Mr Wonderful”.
